November 17, 2003 • Film, Reviews

AKA: Police Story 4: Project S; Project S; Supercop 2; Once a Cop
Literally: Super Plan
Director: Stanley Tong Kwai-Lai
Producer: Jackie Chan

Cast: Michelle Khan/Yeoh (Yeung Chi-King), Yu Rong-Guang, Athena Chu Yun, Emil Chow Wah-Kin, Fan Siu-Wong, Dick Wei, Jackie Chan.

Running Time: 103 min.

Plot: The pumped-up semi-sequel to SUPERCOP, with Jackie Chan’s partner Michelle Khan reprising her role as a head-kicking Hong Kong police-woman racing to head off an elaborate and inventive heist.

Michelle Yoeh kicks her way into a Supercop knockoff. She headlines, playing the same character she was in Jackie Chan’s movie. There’re also appearences by kung fu film greats Yu Rong Gang and Yukari Oshima. And Michelle Yoeh finally plays a slightly sexualized character, instead of some completely militant, stick-in-the-mud prude. She was better in Crouching Tiger, of course, but this movie also has lots of fun action and just a bit of actual lust and romance for our heroine. It’s a pretty good stunt-heavy kung fu film, marred only by Jackie Chan’s ridiculous cameo as a fat lady.
