Plot: In the Early 1930’s era Italy, air pirates, bounty hunters and high flyers of all sorts rule the skies. The most cunning and skilled of these pilots is Porco Rosso, a man cursed with the head of a pig after watching the spirits of the pilots killed in the last air battle he fought in rise rise to the heavens. He now makes his living taking jobs, such as rescuing those kidnapped by air pirates. Donald Curtis, Porco’s Rival in the air and in catching the affections of women, provides a constant challange to the hero, culminating in a hilarious, action packed finale.

Another sweet, simple animated film from master animator Hayao Miyazake. The Pink Pig of the title is a famous flying ace turned into an actual pig. The plot leaps off from that Cyrano Debergerac-type starting-point and includes some wonderful bits of swashbuckling and some not-too-maudlin pathos. This is perhaps the most consistently fun of Miyazake’s kid-oriented projects, though not as tightly-put-together as the best Studio Ghibli films.
